Principles and Practice of Web Design â⬠Home Page Evaluation Free Essays
08. 04. 2013 INT1022 Principles and Practice of Web Design [THE EVALUATION OF WWW. We will write a custom essay sample on Principles and Practice of Web Design ââ¬â Home Page Evaluation or any similar topic only for you Order Now EXPERILAND. COM/] URL: http://www. experiland. com/ Introduction: The website experiland. com is published by and part of the JB Concepts design media group and was founded in 2010. The urge to create the site developed because the JB Concepts design media group felt that there was a need for a science website for students, teachers and interested young people which helps them understand science and encourages them to experience science through own, by the website guided, projects and experiments. Furthermore the website gives the opportunity to increase the knowledge provided online through the availability of e-books. The creators see themselves responsible for educating and improving the learning experience for students while providing the necessary information concerning safety and emphasizing the sense of responsibility by the young scientists. The science projects are divided into different target groups ranging from the first to the eighth grade. Description Evaluation: The home-page of the website is divided into four main parts. It also introduces the texture of the website and reflects the general design for every sub-page. The texture is divided into two parts which are differentiated through different colors. The head part is metallic neon green and gives an association to the topic science as it is usually considered nature based while green reflects this nature aspect. The other texture is a rough to smooth going dark grey metallic look which reflects the human involvement in the topic science. It makes sense that green is the head as it is the ground for the researches and the metallic artificial looking part is the content part of the website because it reflects what human found out so far. Thus it is a great choice of general design for the website. Furthermore the subtitles in the content part have a special pattern which gives the user the impression to see through a microscope on the subtitles. It thus keeps the topic science consistently over the complete page and uses patterns effectively to suggest the theme. Furthermore the head of the website provides a character and the logo design of the website which includes the other colors that will be used on the website. The colors are identification colors for the five different main themes of science the website provides. These topics are chemistry in blue, which resembles liquid, earth science and astronomy in violet, which is commonly associated with science of the universe, electricity and magnetism in yellow, which resembles the light of a light bulb, life science as biology in green, as green is commonly associated with the nature and finally physics in red, which differs strongly from the other colors It thus slowly introduces the user into the color way of the website and helps the user to rediscover the already known colors later in the content parts. The great and harmonious mix of colors also entices the user to spend more time on the website and thus provides the positive effect that a wisely chosen color way should have (Shenkman Jonsson, 2000; Nielsen, 2002; Tractinsky et al, 2004; Tractinsky et al, 2006; Valdez Mehrabian, 1994). The website uses the typeface -Trebuchet MS,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif- consistently on every page and just differs in the color for titles and subtitles, content and links. The Titles and subtitles are in bold, white and in the size of 1. 8em to be easily identifiable as titles. The content is regular, black and in the size of 1. em while the links have the same structure they are in light green. The website uses the em size of font because it is easily scalable and mobile-device friendly. The font choice of the website is efficient and logical. The titles and subtitles have a slightly bigger size without being too place containing, while the content is held simple and easily readable. Titles in t he running text are emphasized by using bold font and 1. 6em as the size. However the choice of the color for links is not suitable even though they are easy to differ from the rest of the text, they are sometimes hard to see because of the green color way and theme design. It seems more fitting to the design than the commonly used blue but however is harder to distinguish from the text. The texting of the website is held easily understandable for students of any age. Moreover the website provides an online glossary that can be used to understand specific scientific terms. It thus delivers exactly what is needed to the target group of young students. The pictures used on the website are generally held simple but are however efficient and easily recognizable and understandable. The simple use of the pictures lets the website work fast and without long loading periods. It is thus easy to browse through and find a topic of interest. The first part is the head of the website which provides the user with links to the five main parts of the websites which are the Home-page, the Books-page where the user can purchase e-books, an about us-page on which the company provides further information for the drive to create the website, the most important page Projects and the possibility to get in contact with the creators for questions and inquiries. Additionally the website provides the possibility to search for topics on the website by implementing a Google-Search-Tool in the head. More over frequent users of the website can sign in with their account and a shopping cart tool is implemented. The Head of the page thus serves exactly what is needed from a head. It gives the user the opportunity to easily navigate in between the main pages of the website and search for specific topics more easily. It effectively uses the space to promote the logo and introduces the user to the website. The only negative thing about the head is the choice of colors for the not chosen main pages, as they are depicted in a slightly lighter green than the background which can make them hard to read. Other than that all information are clearly readable and identifiable. The second part is the sidebar. The sidebar provides a lot of information and options for the user. Once understood it can be used to easily navigate through the website. The sidebar stays right to the content part through project and website based contents and only disappears in the books part of the website. It consists of different parts which differ from each other by the use of color and small graphics. Additionally the first part differs itself further by not being in the same design. This makes sense because this part is about the charitable function of the website, which donates 5% of their profit to charity and wants the user to vote for which charity it should be. The next part depicts the shopping cart of the users since it is possible to purchase e-books on the website. It thus helps to keep an overview if books are being purchased. The next five parts are designed to help the user understand the website and to browse through the website and find suitable information. It thus provides browsing by school grade, by occupation and purpose, and the nature of interest of the user. These bars are thus implemented to introduce first time users and help them navigate through the system. Itââ¬â¢s very effective because the first time users donââ¬â¢t have to look for the detailed content immediately but can be guided by the navigation the website provides. Additionally the small graphics help the users, and especially young users, to identify the use of the bar quickly and recognize them later again. Experienced users can make use of the sidebar as well, as it allows them to find their current project or their topic of interest effectively because it implemented the same color scheme and graphics design for the main topics of science as used on the content pages of those topics. That means that the colors are recurring and coherently used through the website and paint a complete picture. The sidebar allows the user a horizontal navigation through the different topics. Only specific projects must be found by navigating to the field of interest and finding the project from there. The third part is the content part of the website. It is separated in different colons which provide further information about before mentioned topics and themes. In the main page the content part basically gives more information to the points that are mentioned and depicted in the other parts. It allows the user to click on the topics and receive an even more detailed description of the topics. The content part always changes and contains the source of information and the reason for the users to use the website. It helps the user to find topics of interest and gives to every detailed subtopic a quantity of available projects in that topic. After deciding for a topic the user will be led to a different content page which is designed in the topics lead color and contains the different available projects. The different projects are then differentiated in different categories depending on the advised grade of the student, the difficulty, the time consumption and whether or not adult supervision is advised. The side then provides further information about the topic and explains how the project works. It is very effectively design because it shows briefly what materials are needed and then shows graphics and explanations on how to perform the project. It makes it easily understandable for students. It also draws a conclusion why the project works and gives the possibility to receive further information about the topic by purchasing an e-book. It is an effective way to present and explain the project, however the website is pressuring the user into buying the e-books because they only provide further information with these e-books. The last part of the website is the bottom part. It summarizes the main parts of the website in general main topics and provides a legitimacy check by showing awards the website won. Moreover it provides a free sample of one of the e-books. It is held in the same rough metallic grey design that is used as the texture of the site. Moreover this part also never changes and is provided on every content page. Bibliography Nielsen, J. , Tahir,M. Gangs and Society Free Essays
Gangs can have a tremendous effect on society. They have existed for hundreds of years, especially in America. Although gangs are usually created from people who intend to offer safety in numbers, this safety is usually done through acts of crime. We will write a custom essay sample on Gangs and Society or any similar topic only for you Order Now This book will explain how gangs and their actions affect society. Chapter one is ââ¬Å"Initiationâ⬠. This included getting high with the other gang members, then getting beaten by his new comrades, then going out with a 12 gauge shotgun and ambushing a rival ââ¬Å"setâ⬠. Sets are subsets of larger gangs like the Crips or the Bloods. Most gang violence occurs within these gangs between neighborhood ââ¬Å"setsâ⬠. For example, Kodyââ¬â¢s gang, the ââ¬Å"Eight Traysâ⬠are Crips and mortal enemies to the ââ¬Å"Rollinââ¬â¢ Sixtiesâ⬠Crips. Not only must each set fight their neighboring rivals, but also they are expected to respect the larger scale wars. If a group of sets declare war on another group of sets then your set may be expected to take a side. This can result in some very awkward diplomatic situations with Crip sets allied with Blood sets against Crip sets and their allied Blood sets. At one point in the book, the Eight Trays found themselves at war with a previously good ally, because of these larger conflicts. Kody took to the violence. He saw it as the step from childhood into manhood. He was good at it and soon received the gang name, ââ¬Å"Monsterâ⬠. He willingly and joyfully joined ââ¬Å"Flyâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Tray Ballâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Huckabuckâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Lepâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Crazy Dâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Gangster Coolâ⬠. These youths were very much aware of the gangster legends, who had gone before them. This older members were mostly either dead or in jail. They seldom appear in the book, but when they do, there is respect and admiration from the younger members. Kodyââ¬â¢s goal was to build such a reputation. He even had a three point plan to reach his goal. First, he had to build his personal reputation by effectively using violence. Second, he had to build his name in association with his set, so that when his name is spoken his set is spoken of ââ¬Å"in the same breathâ⬠. Third, he must establish himself as a promoter of Crip. their activities affect society. Weapons were easily obtained from older members. 12 gauge, . 44, 9mm, . 38 were common. A ââ¬Å"bangerâ⬠seldom moved about without being ââ¬Å"strappedâ⬠with his ââ¬Å"gatâ⬠. The war was financed by thievery and drug sales. This was before crack and its associated money made full automatic the weapons of choice. Kody would patrol his neighborhood on his bicycle carrying a loaded hand gun. They shot their enemies on sight. I was frightened at times by the fearlessness, heartlessness, and cold bloodedness of some of the armed guiltless homicides. Avenging assaults, initiation attacks and a peppering of random acts of murder accompany this proclaiming of manhood. One gang member, challenged to a private duel, responded, ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m a killer, not a gunfighter. â⬠Monsterââ¬â¢s reputation built quickly. He was a very effective killer. Kody found himself the target of older gang members who wanted him dead. He was ambushed, shot six times. He survived and went right back to banging. It all seemed quite normal to him. He couldnââ¬â¢t imagine living life as a ââ¬Å"hookâ⬠, a civilian, a victim. He was at war for control of the civilians, the hood, their turf. Killing civilians was frowned upon. There was no glory in civilians, too easy. Some civilians even welcomed and protected the hoodââ¬â¢s bangers as defenders. Later in the book, while in prison, Kody was recruited into an army of bangers, the Consolidated Crips Organization. Thatââ¬â¢s CRIPS, as in Clandestine Revolutionary International Party Soldiers, defender of the C-Nation, unifier of the warring sets with claim to the Crips name. The older gang members were very aware of the need for more unity between gang members to reduce the crippling infighting. There is much talk and effort placed in creating a Gang. The primary motivation to such unity was surviving the larger scale wars. The Crips were allied with gangs of Southern Mexicans against the Aryan Nazis with their Northern Mexican allies. California prison reads like a race war. This causes me to have nightmare visions of a possible Earth, where the racial and tribal lines of loyalty and disloyalty exists on a bloody worldwide scale. I took comfort in the fact that this book is the story of transformation, from a boy killer to a mature man. Gangs of all levels and types usually have a negative effect on society. Gangs, gang violence and gang wars typically suck up a city or townââ¬â¢s police resources because of the sheer number of people involved, lack of witness cooperation and types of crimes connected to gangs. Higher-level gangs that are investigated by the FBI sometimes force the agency to utilize very risky and very expensive resources like high-tech surveillance, informants and witness protection programs. Gangs also can bring down the property value of neighborhoods from the violence and vandalism involved with gang life. Big money investors may shy away from places where they feel that their properties and resources will not be used for fear of gang crimes. Gangs can also drive up prices of local groceries and commodities via their intimidating schemes that force businesses to pay them sums of money in exchange for ââ¬Å"protection. Gangs have been threatening the progression of our society due to the fear that has been put into everyoneââ¬â¢s eyes. In my own hometown of Fairfax Virginia, now whenever people hear the police car sirens, the first thought that comes into their mind is someone got shot. Gang violence is not just an issue in Fairfax; gang violence is known to be an is sue all over the world. Gang violence seems to be increasing all over the world throughout the years, and itââ¬â¢s becoming a major issue. Many people agree that innocent live get taken due to terror and violence that gangs bring to our society. The lives of young people are being put in danger because most gangs recruit young people as members. The younger members are the ones being sent to kill each other just to gain respect by the older people in the gangs, and the gain reputation in the gang too. Innocentââ¬â¢s peopleââ¬â¢s house get shot at because of the gangs trying to kill a gang member, and sometimes they end up killing an innocent person. Some people feel the criminal justice system is failing to control the growth and strength of gangs in communities and prisons alike. In todayââ¬â¢s society, the age of gang members continues to decrease while the number of them continues to increase. As youth continue to age the chance that they will end up in prison increases. There will be focus on the relationship between prison and street gangs and how society is affected as a result of these gangs. It is important to look at how gang violence can be reduced if not prevented all together Mike Torbert ââ¬Å"The Autobiography Of An L. On Our Way free essay sample
Will Rogers once said, ââ¬Å"If you want to be successful, itââ¬â¢s just this simple. Know what you are doing. Love what you are doing. And believe in what you are doing.â⬠When determining the laws of life that appealed to me, this quote emerged in my mind. The rising generation has the potential for great things, but in order to achieve that high of capacity, they need perseverance, direction, and self-reliance. I recall walking into my classroom on the first day of kindergarten knowing for certain that I wanted to become a teacher just like all the other young girls in my class. But as I grew older, I became more passionate about the world of medicine and caring for people. About two years ago, I read a book that I had recently checked out at the library that a friend recommended. It was called All the Light We Cannot See written by Anthony Doerr. The novel takes place in France during World War II and is centralized around the life of a blind French girl named Marie-Laure LeBlanc and an eighteen-year-old German boy named Werner Pfennig. Reading this story about determination and destiny led to a turning point in my life. Throughout the war, both Marie and Werner feel as if they have no control over their lives. However, after the two characters meet and realize how alike they are, they become stronger and begin to take control of themselves. As I was reading this, I felt as if I should take action in my own life and the first step in doing that would be to find something that I am interested in. After searching for about a week with no luck, I happened to walk in on my mom watching the T.V. show Scrubs. Interested, I sat down next to her and began to watch. When the episode finished, I realized I had found what I had been seeking the entire time. I had not just been looking for a hobby or interest, I had been looking for a p urpose to strive for and I had found it. My mind filled with endless possibilities that only grew larger as I learned more about health and the body. As I continued to take educational opportunities working towards my career in medicine, I realized I needed perseverance. Dedicating my time to my school work and not giving up brought me great rewards throughout the years and it continues to do so. My plans to study with my career goals in mind throughout 9th to 12th grade continue to develop and evolve because of my persistence in looking for a variety of health classes and programs offered at school and online. The ability to endure to the end and stay determined can assist one in the process of going above and beyond in education and life. As I finish off my freshman year at Mountain Pointe High School, I remain diligent preparing for the future by saving money, participating in extracurricular activities, and working hard to earn good grades. One day while we were driving to a friendââ¬â¢s house, my mom decided to take an unknown shortcut to reach our destination quicker. That risky shortcut took us to the wrong place and we ended up becoming lost. We became increasingly angry with one another as more time went by. Frustrated in our attempts, we decided to always have direction and a goal in mind before we began driving in order to prevent a situation like it from happening again. Having objectives to work for will prepare one for the road of life where the ultimate destination is success in doing something loved. Although people may not realize it, everyone is in control of where their car on the road of life ends up. We are the ones turning the steering wheel and putting our feet on the pedals. Every once in awhile, our foot will slip off the gas and hit the brake by accident, but learning from our mistakes is a part of life. If a person knows where they are going and has confidence not only in the direction, but in their abilities as well, then they will reach success. It is true that we can all get a little lost along the way sometimes, but that is what setting goals is for. They act as GPSââ¬â¢s in our lives to help us get where we want to go. Setting objectives to achieve in my life encourages me to take advantage of opportunities that will prepare and send me in a medical career direction. For example, I am planning on attending a Summer Scholars Nursing Program at ASU this summer and taking anatomy and physiology classes during my sophomore year. I hope to have the pleasure of becoming a nursing assistant before my graduation in 2020. As I walk down the aisle to receive my diploma senior year, I imagine starting a new chapter in my book of life. This chapter tends to be full of difficult choices, new surroundings, and plenty of self-reliance. About a year and a half ago, I learned the true meaning of relying on yourself. My mom unexpectedly ended up in the hospital for several days and my younger sister and I were left alone. During that period of time, we were forced to cook our own meals, do our chores without being asked, and comfort each other when we were feeling stressed or unhappy. It was very difficult dealing with schoolwork, worrying about our mom, and taking care of our home all on our own. But learning to depend on ourselves is a large part of preparing for the future and my sister and I learned that early in life. Gaining an understanding of these lessons was another target I hoped to accomplish before completing high school and I did. Not learning this principle causes people to be less productive a nd to become oblivious to the value of work. Knowledge, self-discipline and an increased amount of self-worth can be received if one learns to become self-reliant. I believe that this generation has the potential to change the world if they learn the importance of perseverance, direction, and self-reliance and how it can impact lives in the future. Possessing these traits and living by these laws will encourage people that they are on their way to remarkable things.
Essential Skills for Leadership Effectiveness â⬠MyAssignmenthelp
Question: Discuss about the Essential Skills for Leadership Effectiveness. Answer: Introduction The main objective of this task is to describe the literature in detail on the diversity management and culture in the workforce in order to evaluate and know the breadth and complexity of diversity issues in the workplace. The paper also explains that how favorable culture helps in improving and enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the workers as well as organization. To accomplish the long term mission and vision, diversity management, culture and training and development coaching provide support to the workers at the workplace. The concept of workforce diversity and culture has been discussed in last five decades. The diversity management and favorable culture are liable to resolve and handle the personal issues of the workers. A better understanding of this concept will allow the workers in the firm to resolve conflicts and issues within the organization. Furthermore, the paper provides outlines about the performance management and training and development in the organization. In todays modern world, organizations are performing functions and activities in an effective and dynamic way. The performance management is an ongoing process which is used by HRM to improve and enhance individuals and team performance and productivity. By measuring performance of the employees, the organization has been able to provide rewards, incentives and bonus to the potential and skilled employees. It has been observed that workers are the most significant assets of the company. For attaining strategic goals and objectives, improving the performance of the workers is an effective requirement of HRM. For this purpose, training and development sessions are being held by HRM to maximize the potential, experience and skills of the workers. Along with this, performance measurement is essential for the managers to attain best possible results and outcomes in t he marketplace. On the other hand, the paper outlines that how training and development help in improving and developing the effectiveness of the individuals as well as teams. Moreover, training and development is essential to gain competitive benefits and utilize the skills and capabilities effectively (Harzing Pinningtion, 2015). It also helps to make a good financial position in the global market. The high level of motivation can be achieved by providing learning and development coaching to the workers. Further, the paper explains that how the organization can attain success and growth by conducting training and development sessions, seminars within the organization. Further detail of the task has been stated below. Diversity management and culture Diversity may be defined by Sharma (2016) where he said that diversity is an understanding, knowing, accepting and acknowledging differences among the employees in term of ethnicity, gender, disabilities, class and age. Diversity workforce consists of individuals belonging to dynamic culture who have different traits, expectations and desires (Brownkutskovargo, 2018). The employees who come from different backgrounds and countries have different requirements and feel the support to be respected in the workplace. The management needs to know and understand the requirements and needs of these diverse groups of people so as to eliminate employees issues, tensions and conflicts. Sharma (2016) said that Effective diversity management requires a culture which is broad of a work environment that cultivates participation, teamwork, cohesiveness. Olsen Martins (2012) defines that diversity management is the valorization and reorganization of employees differences and issues. Diversity entail s respect and acceptance, as it means understanding and measuring that each person is dynamic and identifying people individual differences (Lin Wu, L. Y. (2014). Furthermore, managing diversity is a planning and initiating organizational systems and practices to handle employees so that potential and effective benefits of diversity can be taken while it reduces negative impact of diversity (Chang, 2013). Globalization is increasing in the world so the companies require more interaction among the employees who have different backgrounds (Jonsen, Maznevski Schneider, 2011). HRM uses several theories to manage diversity management in the organization that has been stated below. Resource based theory: The main objective of this theory is to analyze that how the implementation of diversity affects resources of the company. The four categories of resources encompass financial capital, human capital, physical capital and corporate capital resources. These resources assist and direct the operation of the firm. These resources also help to improve the performance of the employees and firm as well. Olsen Martins (2012) found that diversity management practices help to interact with an innovation and unique strategy positively (Wan, Hoskisson, Short Yiu, 2011). Institutional theory: This theory helps to understand and evaluate the organization structure. In order to understand and analyze the organization structure as it also should be understood the behavior of the workers and organization factors such as laws, rules, legislation, professional and social norms (Brownkutskovargo, 2018). Diversity management improves and enhances the performance and productivity of the employees. As a result, profitability and outcomes of the organization will also be increased. On the other hand, it is noted that culture is the social behavior, rules and norms that are found in human societies. Culture is considered as a heart of every organization. Shahzad, Luqman, Khan and Shabbir (2012) define that organizational culture is a set of shared values, beliefs, norms and values which are often taken for granted, that assist the workers towards rewarding and acceptable behavior. Lovvorn Chen (2011) defines that culture is the collective thinking of minds which helps to create a difference between the members of one group from another. Culture plays a significant role in each and every organization to maintain favorable working environment in the organization. The effective and dynamic culture helps to create the brand image of the company in the marketplace (Ragir Brooks, 2012). A healthy and favorable culture encourages and motivates the workers to stay loyal and faithful towards the management. Unique culture provides a sense of direction and expectations to the employees in order to perform tasks and duties effectively. Hofstede culture dimension model is used by the nations to understand and analyze the different culture of the countries. The effective and unique communication tools can be used to eliminate the culture issues and conflicts (Khana Afzalb, 2011). International performance management, training and development De Waal (2013) defines that performance management is a very vital process of international human resource management which helps to motivate and inspire the employees. Mone London (2018) said that performance management is a means of getting better outcomes and results from the organization, individuals and teams within an agreed planned objectives, standards and goals. Performance management is an essential tool to develop and build competence and commitment of the individuals towards achievement of desired goals and objectives (Francis and Bochie- Mensah, 2012). HR department plays a strategic role in performance management. Human resource management makes effective strategies and policies to evaluate and analyze the performance of the employees. Teeratansirikool, Siengthai, Badir Charoenngam (2013) stated that performance management is a constant process of evaluating, identifying, and rising the productivity and efficiency of the employee and aligning productivity and outcomes with tactical goals of the company. There are five elements of performance management system which include the following: Goal setting theory: This theory is propounded by Edwin Locke in 1968. The theory believes that the individual targets and objectives recognized by an employee play a vital role in encouraging and inspiring him for excellent and greater performance. This is possible because the employee keep following their goals and targets. If these objectives and targets are not attained, either they recover their efficiency or modify the goals and objectives to make them more pragmatic. In this way, performance management leads in attainment of the long term goals and objectives (Lunenburg, 2011)). Expectancy theory: This theory was developed in 1964 by Victor Vroom. This theory suggests that workers adjust their actions and behavior in the firm on the basis of predictable satisfaction. The employees modify their activities and actions in such way which is most likely to lead them to achieve these goals and objectives. This theory believed that performance of the employee is influenced by the expectations concerning future events (Van Ryzin, 2013). Training and development One of the important functions of human resource management is training and development which monitors on the organizational operation and activity aimed at improving and bettering the productivity of individuals as well groups in the firm. It is recognized by several names such as learning and development and human capital development. Sabzian Gilakjani (2013) stated that training and development is a subsystem of a firm which encourages and improves the performance of the groups and individuals as well. Phillips (2012) defines that training is an educational process which includes the sharpening of skills, talents, concepts and knowledge in order to boost the performance and productivity of the employees. Change is one of the significant factors that contribute to the need of training and development. Training and development coaching is provided to the employees for managing the management changes in the organization. There are two methods of training and development through which managers and leaders can improve their knowledge and skills such as on-the-job training methods and off-the-job training methods. On the job training methods: It is an ordinary method of training and development in which training is provided by the trainee to the employees on a specific job. Trainee improves their potential, knowledge and skills which are essential to perform the tasks and duties successfully. On the job methods include job rotation, coaching, job instructions, internship training. On the job training methods increase and enhance immediate productivity and outcomes of the firm as it also helps to optimize the resources of the firm (Topno, 2012). These training methods help to manage the latest trends that are going on in the business world as it also important to eliminate the challenges and issues of the market. Also, it helps to the workers to understand new tasks and projects more effectively and efficiently (Elnaga Imran, 2013). Off-the-job methods: Off-the-job techniques have their own limitations and to develop the performance and productivity of the workers, off-the-job training can also be provided. The techniques and tools which are initiated for the development and improvement of the workers away from the field of the job are called as off-the-job training methods. Training and development plays enormous role in each and every organization. A training program allows employees to improve their skills and knowledge. In this way, training and development helps to address the weakness of individuals (Brown Harvey, 2011). A person who gets training and development coaching is able to perform tasks and duties effectively. Training and development makes aware the employees to understand and know the safety practices and procedures for their basic tasks and duties (Khan, Khan Khan, 2011). Learning and development may also build and develop confidence, loyalty and trust among the workers. Employee satisfaction is one of the significant factors which can be provided by effective learning and development coaching. An employee who feel appreciated and challenged in the firm, he may feel more satisfaction towards their tasks and duties through learning and development. In this way, the company is able to meet its desired goals and objectives in the compet itive market (Tooksoon, 2011). Conclusion On the above mentioned analysis, it has been evaluated that diversity management, favorable culture, performance measurement and training and development are important and vital functions of human resource management. In todays modern world, HRM is becoming an integral part of each and every company. No company can survive its business activities and operations effectively without sustainable HRM. Furthermore, it is noted that success and growth of the firm and employee as well depends on the effective and unique HRM. Various policies, strategies and plans are initiated by human resource management for attaining the better results and outcomes. In addition, they protect the rights of the employees by measuring their performance and providing favorable working environment. On the other hand, HRM conducts training and development sessions to get better outputs and improve effectiveness of the workers. To provide learning and development coaching, various methods are used by HR team wit hin the organization. Learning and development sessions help in reducing and eliminating the cross cultural management issues in the firm. Moreover, it builds and develops positive culture in the workplace. In addition, training and development is considered an important tool that can bring an individual into a position where they can perform their duties and tasks correctly and effectively. Additionally, diversity management plays an empirical role in the organization to introduce innovation in the workplace. The diverse workforce helps to attract and retain the customers in the marketplace as it also helps to reduce the risks and challenges of the global market. By using diversity management, people are easily able to understand and know the culture and languages of different countries. Therefore, the company can gain several benefits with the help of diverse people in the workplace. Now it is recommended that the firm should make unique and effective strategies, policies and plans in the organization to manage culture and diversity issues. Along with this, unique and effective standards and norms must be set by HRM to conduct business operation successfully and correctly. It shall be observed that the organization should set objectives and goals to gain the advantages of diverse workforce at the workplace. In addition, HRM should ensure that written guidelines are relevant and unambiguous and easy to understand each person. Along with this, feedback must be collected by managers to improve and enhance the performance of the workers. Effective and unique communication shall be made by the HRM to communicate and share knowledge, skills and opinion among the workers. Equal rights should be provided to each and every employee in the organization to make happy them at the workplace. There should not be any discrimination in the organization. Additionally, performance management system must be developed and used by human resource management to analyses and identify the skills, talents and potential of the workers. In this way, HRM can analyze the productivity of an individual as it also help in motivating the workforce. Apart from this, unique and attractive recruitment and selection strategies should adopt by the company to attract and retain the employees. Further, an employer should be able to talk and approach with their employees to encourage and motivate them. Trust is a critical tool to build and develop reciprocal relationship with employees at the workplace. Moreover, a leader or manager should provide support to their workers when they are needed. A good manager is responsible to get to know each employees needs, requirements, desires and wants. Additionally, unique training and development tools and techniques shall be used by human resource management to develop skills, experience and knowledge of the workers. Effective rewards and i ncentives strategies shall be adopted by the firm to inspire workers for doing work effectively. References Brownkutskovargo.,(2018). Learn from Mistakes free essay sample
The point of making mistakes is to learn from them. If you dont learn from what you do wrong, then making mistakes has no silver lining, it Is purely bad. I have come to believe this through personal experience and watching others. When climbing the ladder of success, each step gets you closer to the top. Therefore each step is a mistake that you learned from. A good decision, or even a stroke of luck. How could a person climb that ladder without each and every wooden rung to help them? Synthesis of chloropentaaminecobalt(lll) chloride Essay Example
Synthesis of chloropentaaminecobalt(lll) chloride Paper Insert the tube into the MSB and take a mental average of the fluctuating reading. 5. Repeat the previous step three times. 6. If the MSB displays a negative number, the coordination complex is diamagnetic and no further steps are necessary. 7. Determine how many unpaired electrons reside on the cobalt. E. Interpreting Infrared Spectrum 1. Assign the bands of the infrared spectrum of the complex. Results A. Synthesizing Carbonatotetraamminecobalt (III) nitrate: [Co(NH3)4CO3]NO3 The first attempt to dissolve the ammonium carbonate in 30. 0 mL of water failed because some chunks still remained. It was important to grind the ammonium carbonate down to a fine powder because the dissolution process took place very slowly and bigger chunks would not have dissolved. After all of the 10. 012 g of ammonium carbonate was dissolved, the liquid remained clear. The addition of 7. 56 g of cobalt nitrate to 15. 0 mL of water was very fluent and took on a color between dark purple and maroon. When the ammonium carbonate and cobalt nitrate solutions were added together, the new mixture was a blood red. After the mixture was stirred, however, it darkened and became nearly black. The 4. While the solution, which was poured into a large crucible, was concentrated over a Bunsen burner, evaporation occurred very slowly. During evaporation, the solution bubbled a little, gas was evolved, and the dissolution of 2. 49 g of ammonium carbonate in the hot solution was visible due to tiny bubbles. After the evaporation was complete and the volume had dropped to 48 mL, the solution had the same appearance. However, after suction filtering the solution, the color became a lighter purple. After the cold water bath, it looked somewhat powdery on the bottom. Filtering a second time resulted in only a pink/purple powder which appeared somewhat crystalline. When the solid was mixed with a scupula during the 10 minute drying process, it looked a lot more like crystals. The final mass of the crystals was 3. 039 g. The balanced equation for the synthesis of carbonatotetraamminecobalt (III) nitrate is shown below as well as the calculations for determining percent yield. 2Co(NO3)2 + 6NH3 + 2(NH4)2CO3 + H2O2 2[Co(NH3)4CO3]NO3 + 2NH4NO3 + 2H2O Theoretical Yield: Density of NH3 (liquid) = . 628 g/ml Density of 30% H2O2 = 1. 11 g/ml Moles of NH3 = (30 ml)(. 628 g/ml)/(17. 031 g/mol) = 1. 20 mol Moles of H2O2 = (4. 0 ml)(1. 11 g/ml)/(34. 015 g/mol) = . 131 mol Moles of [Co(H2O)6](NO3)2 = . 025 mol Moles of (NH4)2CO3 = . 105 mol Limiting Reactant = [Co(H2O)6](NO3)2 (. 025 mol of [Co(H2O)6](NO3)2)(2 mol of [Co(NH3)4CO3]NO3 / 2 mol [Co(H2O)6](NO3)2) = .025 mol of [Co(NH3)4CO3]NO3 (. 025 mol of [Co(NH3)4CO3]NO3)(249. 066g) = 6. 22 g Percent Yield (Actual Yield/Theoretical Yield)(100) = (3. 039 g/6. 22 g)(100) = 48. 86 % Yield B. Measuring Absorbance Spectroscopy. Two distinct peaks of intensity were noticeable for the absorbance spectrum of the cobalt solution between 350 to 650 nm. Below are the calculations for determining the mass of crystals required to create a solution of the right concentration to produce a spectrum of absorbance at approximately 0. 6. Interpreting Infrared Spectrum [Co(NH3)4CO3]NO3 IR spectrum: spikes at frequencies(cm-1) of 280, 500, 830, 1290, 1380, 1600, and 3300. [Co(NH3)5Cl]Cl2 IR spectrum: spikes at frequencies(cm-1) of 830, 1290, 1550, 3200. NaNO3 IR spectrum: spikes at frequencies(cm-1) of 830 and 1380. Discussion A problem occurred during the conductivity measurements of the cobalt complex. The expected values for conductance were between 118 and 131, but the actual calculated value was 43. 88 microseimens. Clearly, the problem arose during the probe reading in the cobalt solution. It is possible that the probes reading was skewed because it made contact with the glass wall of the beaker. This problem would have definitely lowered the reading relative to what it should have been. The absorbance spectrum of the cobalt complex on the wavelength interval 350-650 nm displayed two distinct peaks, meaning that both ions of the coordination compound were separated. This suggests strongly that the coordination compound was indeed synthesized correctly. The absorption intensities at both lambda maxes were relatively close, around 0. 6. These absorption values were used in the Beers Law equation to solve for the molar absorbance, also called the extinction coefficient. Both molar absorbance values are fairly close to 100, but deviations of 4 and 14 imply that some impurities still remain in the compound, possibly left over from the evaporation process. The coordination compound characterization via magnetic susceptibility was rather simple data requiring no calculations. The reason for this is that the magnetic susceptibility reading of the crystal-filled glass tube was equal to the reading of the empty tube, and that both were negative values. Negative values signify that the coordination compound is diamagnetic, which means that no unpaired electrons are present. The reason for the pairing of electrons can be explained with crystal field splitting. When electrons are introduced to d-orbitals, a change in energy occurs. Electrons will move to orbitals with the lowest possible energy. The ideal behavior for electrons after occupying the dxy, dx2, and dyz orbitals is to pair with the electrons already in these same orbitals. This is true only if ? E, or the energy difference from these orbitals to the dx2-y2 and dz2 orbitals, is greater than the energy cost for pairing with electrons in the lower orbitals. In the case of the cobalt complex, the spin pairing energy is much less than ? E, causing the electrons to pair in the lower energy orbitals. This pairing makes the complex a low-spin complex, implying that it is in fact diamagnetic. The goal of the infrared spectroscopy analysis was to prove that the cobalt coordination compound which was created during this experiment was actually created instead of a different compound with similar properties and bonds. [Co(NH3)5Cl]Cl2 and NaNO3 were available to compare with the infrared spectrum of [Co(NH3)5CO3]NO3. Clearly, [Co(NH3)5CO3]NO3 cannot be the same compound as NaNO3 because they only share one infrared band. Both coordination compounds have a band at 3300 cm-1 which corresponds to a N-H stretch, one at 1600 cm-1 corresponding to N-H bending, one at 1300 cm-1 corresponding to N-H symmetric bending, and one at 830 cm-1 corresponding to N-H bending. The most important difference between these coordination compounds lies in the common spike of [Co(NH3)5CO3]NO3 and NaNO3 at 1380 cm-1. Because these two compounds share this spike while the Cl coordination compound does not, the 1380 cm-1 peak must represent an N-O bond, which is the most significant spike on the NaNO3 spectrum as would be expected. During the synthesis of carbonatotetraamminecobalt (III) nitrate, several factors could have contributed to the relatively low quantity of crystals formed in terms of the percent yield. After calculations, it was concluded that 6. 22 grams of crystals should have been produced. However, only 3. 039 grams was actually produced. One of these factors that may have contributed to the low percent error of 48. 86% is the short evaporation stage. Since time was a factor during the experiment, the solution may not have been given enough time to evaporate any impurities. While the final volume of the solution was verified to be 48 mL, under the designated 50 mL, more impurities could have evaporated. If the solution had sat above a Bunsen burner for a greater length of time, it would have undoubtedly become more concentrated. Another factor which possibly contributed to a low percent yield is measurement errors. Although a good level of confidence can be felt about whether or not the right amounts were added, there is always room for error. A simple miscalculation or slight deviation in a measurement could have thrown off the remainder of the synthesis. Furthermore, a very obvious source of error can be found regarding the filtering system. The crystal product is quite soluble in water for the fact that its ions can be easily separated. For this reason, ice cold water was used whenever contact had to be made with the crystals; the low temperature of the water prevents the dissolution of the crystals to some extent. In the filter, some of the crystals could have dissolved and fallen through, which would have resulted in a poor percent yield. In general, this experiment ran very smoothly and achieved its purpose of providing detailed information regarding the properties and synthesis processes of a transition metal coordination compound. To improve the results of percent yield and perhaps to improve the results in many areas of characterization, the evaporation stage should be lengthened to facilitate the removal of remaining impurities.
